Trauma-Informed Care for Adolescents and Young Adults

Exposure to trauma is common in adolescents and young adults, with over 60% reporting exposure to at least one traumatic event. Trauma exposure is linked to both mental and physical health outcomes, including PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance use, disordered eating, self-harm, suicidality, and chronic health conditions, among others. This program will review the DSM-5 diagnosis for PTSD, risk factors for PTSD development, and how to assess for trauma symptoms in adolescents. Practitioners should leave this training ready to incorporate assessment of trauma symptoms into their clinical practice for clients appropriate for outpatient care.
