Therapy Process

What does therapy cost?

Joon charges $150 for your initial 50-minute session. If the client is a minor, this call will include the client's parents/guardians as well. After this session, your Joon therapist will send you a customized treatment plan that will detail ongoing expenses. A typical session costs $125 per session billed every 4 weeks. This includes weekly live video-therapy sessions, access to app-based skills, and a monthly parent check-in.

Does it matter where I live?

Joon is currently available in California, Delaware, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, New York and Washington. One of the benefits of teletherapy is that it doesn't matter where in these states you live.

Will my insurance cover therapy?

Joon is in-network with AmeriHealth Pennsylvania, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Carelon, ComPsych, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Pennsylvania and Delaware, Independence Blue Cross, Kaiser Permanente Washington, and Magellan. We are currently working on adding more.

We are out-of-network for other insurance providers, but we would be happy to provide you with an itemized statement for insurance reimbursement. Many insurance plans will reimburse 40%-80% of the cost for Out-of-Network therapy. For insurance reimbursement requests, please contact your provider with the following codes: 90791-95 (for intake sessions), 90837-95 (for therapy sessions). How is teletherapy different from traditional therapy?

Teletherapy provides a flexible and accessible alternative to in-person mental health care and can be a good fit for many individuals. Teletherapy is often an ideal choice for families with busy schedules, as it eliminates the need for driving to/from a clinician's office.

For many adolescents and young adults familiar with accessing a wide range of services on their phones or other devices and unfamiliar with talking in-person with an unknown adult, teletherapy may provide a more accessible and comfortable way to initiate mental health care. Research indicates that mental health outcomes for most common symptoms (including depression and anxiety) are as good via teletherapy as via traditional in-person therapy.

Treatment Plan

How long do clients typically receive therapy?

At Joon, all care is personalized so this will be different for everyone. You will work with your therapist who will develop a treatment plan to achieve your goals. You have the flexibility to receive all of the support you need to overcome challenges and lead a positive life. We bill monthly and you can cancel anytime.

What do you mean by evidence-based treatment?

"Evidence-based assessment and treatment" means we take what the science tells us about what causes mental health problems and what works to treat mental health problems, and then apply that scientific information to develop a treatment plan for each client. We use scientifically-validated measures and a clinical interview to collect information on your symptoms (assessment) and use strategies in therapy that have been shown to be effective in scientific studies (treatment).

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been shown in numerous studies to be effective in reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, and other common mental health problems. This approach emphasizes that negative thinking patterns and maladaptive behaviors may cause and maintain mental health problems. Thus, CBT works to help people change those negative thinking patterns and replace unhelpful behaviors with more adaptive ones.

Coordinated medical care

Does Joon Care collaborate with medical providers?

Yes! At Joon Care we understand the importance of collaboration in your health care. Our administrative team makes it easy to connect your therapist and physician (primary care providers, pediatricians, and more), which means you'll have a whole health team in your corner.

Does Joon Care prescribe medications?

No, currently Joon Care focuses on providing evidence-based individual therapy. However, all of our therapists are able to participate in care coordination with a prescriber (e.g. your primary care provider physician).

What's the difference between a Licensed Psychologist, LMHC, LMHCA, etc.?

All of the therapists listed on our site are qualified to provide mental health care. The different abbreviations after provider’s names designate the training and licensure that each provider holds.

The main differences between these licenses are related to the length and type of the training that the provider has.

Psychologists (PhD and PsyD) receive their doctorate with 4 or more years of training focused on psychological assessment, diagnosis, and therapy. To receive their degree, psychologists must deepen their understanding of mental health through independent research.
Providers including licensed mental health counselors (LMHC), clinical social workers (LCSW), and marriage and family therapists (MFT) typically have received a master’s degree after 2 years of training in mental health and their field of specialty.
